Collecting data from Google Ads Keyword Planner

Limitations

Collecting data from Google Ads Keyword Planner comes with the following limitations:

  • You cannot fetch data for the current month using the Google Ads Keyword Planner API. This may also result in an error in the first three days of a month when trying to fetch data for the previous month.

Prerequisites

Before you start collecting data from Google Ads Keyword Planner, perform all of the following actions:

  • Ensure you have access to a Google Ads account.

  • Find the site URLs and keywords on which you want to collect data.

  • Alternatively, create a value table that contains the site URLs or keywords. For more information on how to create a value table, see Creating value tables.

Creating a datastream to collect data from Google Ads Keyword Planner

Configuration: Choose the data you want to collect from Google Ads Keyword Planner

To choose what data to collect and customize the Google Ads Keyword Planner datastream configuration, follow these steps:

  1. (Optional) Rename your datastream.

  1. In Report type, select the type of data to collect from Google Ads Keyword Planner. The selected report type determines the additional fields to populate.

  1. In Customers, select the customers for which to collect data. If you do not select any items in a drop-down list, Adverity collects data for all items in the drop-down list.

  1. In Sites URLs, choose how you want to specify the site URLs on which to collect data:

    Type in

    Select this option to manually enter the site URLs for the sites on which you want to collect data.

    If you select this option, in Type in, type in the site URLs on which you want to collect data, separated by commas.

    Value table

    Select this option to provide a value table containing the site URLs on which you want to collect data.

    If you select this option, in Sites value table, select the value table containing the site URLs on which you want to collect data.

  2. In Keywords, choose how you want to specify the keywords on which to collect data:

    Type in

    Select this option to manually enter the keywords on which you want to collect data.

    If you select this option, in Type in, type in the keywords on which you want to collect data, separated by commas.

    Value table

    Select this option to provide a value table containing the keywords on which you want to collect data.

    If you select this option, in Keywords value table, select the value table containing the keywords on which you want to collect data.

    Keyword plans

    Select this option to retrieve saved keywords from Google Ads UI. If left empty, all keyword plans will be used to retrieve the saved keywords.

    If you select this option, in Keyword plans, select the keyword plans on which you want to collect data.

  3. In Bid strategy, select the bidding strategy on which you want to collect data.

  4. In Max CPC bid, enter the maximum cost per click bid on which to base the performance forecast.

  5. In Biddable keywords, enter comma-separated keywords to be used in the ad group for the forecast.

    You can specify the match type by entering the keywords in the following format:

    • Enter the keyword without additional formatting to use broad matching, for example keyword.

    • Enter the keyword in single quotes to use phrase matching, for example 'keyword'.

    • Enter the keyword in square brackets to use exact matching, for example [keyword].

  6. In Negative keywords, enter comma-separated negative keywords to be used in the ad group for the forecast.

    Use the same formatting rules as for the Biddable keywords.

  7. In Conversion rate, enter the conversion rate for the forecast as a percentage. If this field is left empty, an estimated conversion rate will be used.

  8. In Plan Network, choose to collect keywords data for either Google Search or Google Search and Partners.

  9. In Match Type, select how close the keyword needs to match the user's query for data to be collected. For more information about the match types, see the Google documentation.

  10. In Language, select the language on which you want to collect data.

    For the Forecast metrics report type, you can select multiple languages.

  11. In Locations, select the locations on which you want to collect data.

  12. In Max CPC, enter the maximum cost per click.
