Creating a simple dashboard

This guide explains how to create a simple dashboard.

Introduction

A dashboard is a collection of widgets organized to present your data. You can share a dashboard to collaborate on it with other Adverity users, and to allow external users to view it.

A widget is an individual element on a dashboard. Use Data Explorer to create table and chart (visualization) widgets based on your data. You can also add image, video, and text widgets to your dashboard.

In Data Explorer, you create and edit widgets in a view. Only views that are added to a dashboard as a widget are saved.

You can create a new dashboard in one of the following ways:

Create a new empty dashboard
Create a new dashboard containing a widget you have created in Data Explorer
Create a new dashboard from a dashboard template

All dates and numbers displayed in dashboards are shown in the format matching your browser locale.

This setting depends on the language settings in your browser, which you can change as described in the Google Chrome, Firefox, and Safari documentation.

Week-related dimensions and date range filters are based on the first day of the week set in your workspace.

To change the first day of the week on a workspace level, contact Adverity support.

Prerequisites

Before you complete the procedure in this guide, perform all of the following actions:

Load your collected data into Adverity Data Storage.

Creating a new dashboard

Creating an empty dashboard

To create an empty dashboard, follow these steps:

Select the workspace you work with in Adverity and then, in the platform navigation menu, click Dashboards.
In the top right corner, click + Create dashboard.
In the drop-down menu, click Create empty dashboard.

Creating a dashboard containing a widget from Data Explorer

To create a dashboard by adding your widgets from Data Explorer to it, follow these steps:

Create a widget in Data Explorer.
Add the widget to a dashboard.

To create a new dashboard, select Add to new private dashboard.

Creating a dashboard from a dashboard template

If you have created a dashboard template, you can create a dashboard based on your dashboard template. For more information about dashboard templates, see Using dashboard templates. If you already have a dashboard template and want to create a dashboard connected to this template, follow these steps:

Select the workspace you work with in Adverity and then, in the platform navigation menu, click Dashboards.
Click + Create dashboard.
In the drop-down menu, click Create dashboard from template.
In the pop-up window, click the dashboard template you want to use.
Click Create.
In the Permanent filters and Dimensions and metrics steps, choose the permanent filters, dimensions and metrics that you want to use on your new dashboard.
Click Finish.

As a result, your new dashboard has been created and will appear in the Dashboards page. In the Dashboards page, the Connected icon shows that a dashboard is connected to a dashboard template.

Viewing the dashboard

To view the dashboard, follow these steps:

Select the workspace you work with in Adverity and then, in the platform navigation menu, click Dashboards.
Click the dashboard that you have created.

By default, dashboards are displayed in the order in which they are created. The most recently created dashboard is displayed first. If you sort the dashboards into a different order, the new order is only visible on your device, and the changes do not affect other users.
