Loading data into Explore & Present

This guide explains how to load data into the Explore & Present destination in order to visualize your data in Adverity.

Introduction

In Adverity, the Explore and Present pages are where you create widgets and dashboards in order to visualize your data. Only data that has been loaded into the Explore & Presentdestination is available to use in Explore and Present.

Prerequisites

Before you complete the procedure in this guide, perform all of the following actions:

Create a datastream.

Apply the correct Data Mapping to your datastream.

Assigning the Explore & Present destination to a datastream

To create a new datastream to fetch data and load it into Explore & Present, follow the steps in Creating a datastream. In the Destinations step of the datastream creation wizard, select Explore & Present.

To assign the Explore & Present destination to an existing datastream, follow these steps:

Go to the Datastreams page.
Open the datastream that contains the data you want to visualize in Explore and Present.

In the Load section, click + Add destination.

Select the Explore & Present destination in the list.
Click Save.
In the Load section, enable the toggle for the Explore & Present destination.

As a result, you have assigned the Explore & Present destination to your datastream. You will now need to configure settings for the Explore & Present destination as explained below.

Loading data into a single Explore & Present workspace

Load data into a single Explore & Present workspace so that it is only available to users with access to the selected workspace. This is useful if you want to limit the number of users who can visualize this data, and to have only relevant data in a specific workspace in Explore & Present.

To load the data from your datastream into a single workspace in Explore & Present, in the destination settings dialog, configure the following settings.

Workspace mapping type: Choose 1 to 1 mapping to load your data into a single workspace in Explore & Present
Explore & Present workspace: Choose the Explore & Present workspace into which you want to load your data.

As a result, the next time you fetch data in this datastream, the data will be loaded into the selected Explore & Present workspace.

To load data you have already fetched using this datastream into Explore & Present, click Reload in the task overview for the data extract you want to load into Explore & Present.

Loading data into multiple Explore & Present workspaces

Load data into multiple Explore & Present workspaces to make it available to users who have access to different workspaces. This is useful if you want to make this data available to users who do not all have access to the same workspaces in Explore & Present.

To load the data from your datastream into multiple workspaces in Explore & Present, in the destination settings dialog, configure the following settings.

Mapping column

In the drop-down list, select the column in your data extract to use to map the data from this datastream to the workspaces in Explore & Present.

Workspace mapping table

Choose one of the following options:

In the drop-down list, select the workspace mapping table to use to map the values in the mapping column to the workspaces in Explore & Present.
Click + Add to create a new workspace mapping table. For more information, see Creating a workspace mapping table.

Missing action

In the drop-down list, select the action that Adverity will take if a value in the selected mapping column cannot be found in the selected workspace mapping table:

Create and stop - Adverity stops loading data into Explore & Present, creates a new entry in the workspace mapping table for the unmapped value, and notifies you about the error in the datastream overview.
Create and continue - Adverity continues loading data into Explore & Present without the data for the unmapped value, creates a new entry in the workspace mapping table for the unmapped value, and does not notify you about the error in the datastream overview.
Do nothing - Adverity continues loading data into Explore & Present without the data for the unmapped value, but does not create a new entry in the workspace mapping table for the unmapped value, and does not notify you about the error in the datastream overview

As a result, the next time you fetch data in this datastream, the data will be loaded into the selected Explore & Present workspaces.

To load data you have already fetched using this datastream into Explore & Present, click Reload in the task overview for the data extract you want to load into Explore & Present.

Creating a workspace mapping table

Workspace mapping tables define the link between the account_name dimension in your data and the Explore & Present workspace into which you load data. When you map a specific value for the account_name dimension to a workspace in Explore & Present, all rows of data with this account_name dimension value are loaded into Explore & Present.

You can create a workspace mapping table by clicking + Add in the Destination settings window as mentioned below. You can also create a workspace mapping table from the Destinations page. To use this method, follow these steps:

Go to the Destinations page.
Under the page heading, click Workspace mappings.
In the top right corner, click + Create workspace mapping.
In Workspace, select the workspace in which you collect data. By default, this field contains your current workspace.
In Adverity Insights instance, select the Explore & Present workspace into which you want to load your collected data.
In Name, enter a name for this workspace mapping table.
(Optional) Select the Ignore case checkbox to enable this workspace mapping table to recognize values in a non-case-sensitive way.
(Optional) In Description, enter a description for this workspace mapping table.
Click Save.

As a result, you have created a workspace mapping table. You can now select this workspace mapping table in the Workspace mapping table field when configuring the settings for your Explore & Present destination.

Deleting workspace mapping tables

To delete a workspace mapping table, follow these steps:

Go to the Destinations page.
Under the page heading, click Workspace mappings.
In the table, select the checkbox for the workspace mapping table you want to delete.
Click the drop-down menu above the table, which shows how many workspace mapping tables you have selected, then click Delete selected workspace mappings.
Click Yes, I'm sure.

As a result, the selected workspace mapping tables are deleted.

Configuring advanced settings for the Explore & Present destination

To configure advanced settings for the Explore & Present destination, follow these steps:

Go to the Datastreams page.
Open the datastream for which you want to configure the Explore & Present destination settings.
In the Load section of the datastream overview, next to the toggle for the Explore & Present destination, click Actions and then click Destination settings.
In the Destination settings dialog, click Advanced options , then configure the following settings:

Data source

Enter a name for the data source from which this datastream fetches data. This name will appear in the Explore and Present pages whenever the data source is shown.

Date range

In the drop-down menu, select the column in your data extract that contains the date data.

Filename

Select this checkbox to overwrite the relevant data in the Explore & Present destination if a data extract with the same filename already exists in the destination.

Key columns

Select this checkbox to overwrite data in the Explore & Present destination based on the key columns that are configured in the Data Mapping for this datastream.

This overwrite option is applied after all other overwrite options. If you select this checkbox, data will not be overwritten based on dates.
