Transferring data to Google Analytics

This guide explains how to transfer data to Google Analytics to store and further process information.

Introduction

This guide explains how to create a Destination for the Universal Analytics version of Google Analytics.

Concept

Google Analytics is an Active Destination. After you set Google Analytics as the Destination of a Datastream, data is transferred to Google Analytics each time data is fetched for the Datastream. For more information, see Destination types.

You can assign multiple Destinations to a Datastream. For more information on possible limitations, see Assigning multiple Destinations to a Datastream.

Limitations

Transferring data to Google Analytics comes with the following limitations:

  • You cannot transfer empty rows to Google Analytics.

  • To transfer certain data types, you must select the corresponding Data Set Type in your Data Set in Google Analytics. For example, to transfer cost data to Google Analytics, select Cost Data as a Data Set Type in your Data Set.

Prerequisites

Before you complete the procedure in this guide, perform all of the following actions:

  • Create a Datastream whose data you want to transfer to Google Analytics. For more information on creating a Datastream, see Introduction to collecting data.

Procedure

To transfer data from a Datastream to Google Analytics, follow these steps:

  1. Add Google Analytics as a Destination to the Workspace which contains the Datastream or to one of its parent Workspaces.

  2. Assign the Google Analytics Destination to the Datastream.

  3. Find the Google Analytics schema.

  4. Configure the Schema Mapping of your Datastream to conform with Google Analytics Destination standards.

  5. Enable data transfer to the Destination from the Datastream.

  6. Configure transfer settings.
