Managing authorizations

This guide explains how to update and delete an authorization, synchronize the metadata for an authorization, and view an authorization's history.

Updating an authorization

Authorizations may need to be updated for a number of reasons, for example if the authorization expires, or changes are made to the data source. As an example, LinkedIn data sources require their authorizations to be updated regularly.

If an authorization has expired or needs to be updated, you can no longer use this authorization to fetch data. Any data fetches that use this authorization will fail, and the corresponding message will inform you that you need to re-authorize the connector.

To update an authorization, follow these steps:

  1. Go to the Authorizations page.

  2. Click the authorization you want to update.

  3. In the authorization overview, click Re-authorize.

  4. Choose from one of the following options:

    • To update the authorization with your own credentials, click Authorize using your own credentials.

    • To ask someone else to update the authorization, click Send authorization update request.

  5. Depending on the option you selected in the previous step, perform one of the following actions:

    • If you chose Authorize using your own credentials, click Submit and you may need to re-enter your credentials in Adverity or log in to the data source.

    • If you chose Send authorization update request, enter the email address of the person you want to ask and click Send update request.

Deleting an authorization

If you no longer need an authorization, you can delete it. Deleting an authorization will remove the selected authorization from Adverity, as well as all other items associated with the selected authorization. This includes any datastreams and data extracts that use this authorization.

An authorization can only be deleted in the workspace in which it was created. If an authorization was created in a parent workspace, deleting this authorization will mean that it can no longer be used in the child workspaces.

To delete an authorization, follow these steps:

  1. Go to the Authorizations page.

  2. In the table, click Select an action in the row for the authorization you want to delete.

  3. Click Delete.

  4. In the Delete authorizations? window, review the items that will be deleted along with the authorization.

  5. If you want to delete the authorization and all listed items, click Delete.

Synchronizing metadata

Metadata is information about an authorization, such as information about accounts, profiles or campaigns. For some connectors, Adverity retrieves updated metadata overnight and keeps this information in a database. However, you can also trigger this database update manually to update the metadata for an authorization.

For example, Adverity updates the metadata (for example, a list of Facebook Ads accounts) at midnight. You are then granted access to a new Facebook Ads account at 08:00 the following morning. The account does not appear in Adverity because the metadata was updated before you were given access. Manually updating the metadata will add the new Facebook Ads account to the database. As a result, it will appear in Adverity and can be used in your datastreams.

To synchronize the metadata for an authorization, follow these steps:

  1. Go to the Authorizations page.

  2. In the row for the authorization you want to update, click Select an action.

  3. In the drop-down menu, click Sync metadata.
