Creating widgets with filters

This guide explains how to create widgets with filters.

Introduction

Filter data in widgets and dashboards to display only the information that you find relevant.

Concept

There are two types of filter:

  • Widget filters

    Use widget filters to filter data at the level of individual widgets. This procedure is explained in this guide.

  • Dashboard filters

    Use dashboard filters to filter data at the level of dashboards and dashboard pages. For more information, see Adding filters to a dashboard.

Prerequisites

Before you complete the procedure in this guide, perform all of the following actions:

Adding a dimension filter to a widget

To add a dimension filter to the widgets, follow these steps:

  1. Select the workspace you work with in Adverity and then, in the platform navigation menu, click Data Explorer.

  2. At the top of the page, select the View tab that contains the widget.

  3. In the Widget filters section, click Add dimension filter.

  4. (Optional) Deselect the Use date range checkbox to filter data based on dimension values for all time.

  5. In the Choose dimension drop-down menu, select a dimension by which you want to filter data.

  6. In the Filter by drop-down menu, select the dimension values for which you want to filter the dimension. For more information, see Changing dimension filter criteria.

  7. (Optional) Select the Exclude checkbox to exclude data matching the filter.

  8. To add another dimension filter, click Add filter and repeat steps 2-5 above.

  9. Click Apply.

Adding a metric filter to the widgets

To add a metric filter to the widgets, follow these steps:

  1. Select the workspace you work with in Adverity and then, in the platform navigation menu, click Data Explorer.

  2. At the top of the page, select the View tab that contains the widget.

  3. In the Widget filters section, click Add metric filter.

  4. In the Choose metric drop-down menu, select a metric by which you want to filter data.

  5. Select the filtering condition from the following options:

    • At least - use this option to select data only if the metric value is greater than or equal to the condition.

    • At most - use this option to select data only if the metric value is less than or equal to the condition.

    • Range - use this option to select data only if the metric value is within the range specified in the condition.

    • Special - use this option to select data based on NULL values for this metric.

  6. In the From field, enter the lower bound for the values.

  7. In the To field, enter the upper bound for the values.

  8. For the Special condition type, select the option to include or exclude NULL values.

  9. Click Apply.
