Creating and deleting workspaces in Explore & Present#

This guide will explain how to create workspaces in the Explore & Present pages of Adverity.

Introduction#

A workspace is where you collect, transform, and work with your data. You can configure Adverity settings for your workspace. Your organization may also use workspaces to manage access rights. Workspaces are created in a tree structure, where child workspaces may inherit some settings and permissions from the parent workspace.

Prerequisites#

Make sure that you have Workspace Admin (WA) permissions in the relevant workspace. For more information, see Roles and permissions in Explore & Present.

  • When creating a workspace, you need WA permissions in the workspace that you want to be the parent of your new workspace.

  • When deleting a workspace, you need WA permissions in the workspace that you want to delete.

Creating a workspace#

To create a workspace in Explore & Present, follow these steps:

  1. Select the workspace in which you have Workspace Admin permissions and then, in the platform navigation menu, click Explore.

    Note

    This workspace will be the parent workspace of the workspace you create.

  2. In the top left corner, click image1 Select workspace, then image2 Administration.

  3. In the Manage tree section of the administration menu, click Add workspace.

  4. In Name, enter a name for the new workspace.

  5. In Currency, select the default currency to be used in all currency-based metrics in this workspace.

  6. In Week start, select the day to use as the first day of the week in date ranges in this workspace.

    By default, the day of the week selected in the Week Start field for the workspace group is selected.

  7. Click image3 Create.

As a result, you have created a new workspace. It is now shown in the list of workspaces when you click image4 Select workspace.

Deleting a workspace#

When you delete a workspace in Explore & Present, all the data and objects within the workspace are also deleted. For list of all data and objects contained in a workspace in Explore & Present, view the workspace dependencies as described below.

To delete a workspace in Explore & Present, follow these steps:

  1. Select the workspace that you want to delete and then, in the platform navigation menu, click Explore.

  2. In the top left corner, click image5 Select workspace, then image6 Administration.

  3. In the Manage tree section of the administration menu, click Delete workspace [NAME].

    For example, if your workspace is named Team A, this option will be Delete workspace Team A.

  4. Click image7 Delete.

  5. In the confirmation dialog, click Delete workspace.

As a result, the current workspace is deleted, together with all data and objects contained in this workspace.

Viewing workspace dependencies#

A workspace dependency is an object associated with a specific workspace, such as a dashboard. The dependencies page lists how many objects are associated with the current workspace.

To view the dependencies associated with a workspace, follow these steps:

  1. Select the workspace that you want to view and then, in the platform navigation menu, click Explore.

  2. In the top left corner, click image8 Select workspace, then image9 Administration.

  3. In the Workspace section of the administration menu, click Dependencies.

As a result, you see a table that shows the dependencies associated with the current workspace. The table below explains the meaning of each dependency.

Workspace

The ID and name of the workspace in the format Workspace{id=123, name=MyFantasticWorkspace}.

Roles

The number of roles in this workspace. For more information, see Creating a new role in Explore & Present.

Dashboards

The number of dashboards in this workspace.

Chart events

The number of chart events in this workspace.

Segments

The number of saved filter templates in this workspace.

Data imports

The number of data imports in this workspace.

Datatap endpoints

The number of datatap endpoints in this workspace.

Custom connections

The number of custom connections to databases such as Amazon Redshift or Google BigQuery.

Column name labels

The number of custom display names used for dimensions, metrics and calculated KPIs in this workspace. For more information, see Viewing and configuring dimensions, metrics and calculated metrics.

KPI fractional digits

The total number of times the Fractional digits field has been changed for all calculated KPIs in this workspace. For more information, see Viewing and configuring dimensions, metrics and calculated metrics.

KPI visibilities

The number of calculated KPIs that are only visible in the current workspace.

Last accessed by

The email addresses of all users who have accessed this workspace.

Root workspace

The ID and name of the root workspace in your organization in the format Workspace{id=1, name=MyRootWorkspace}. This is not shown if you are viewing the dependencies of the root workspace.

Path to root workspace

The IDs and names of the current workspace and all parent workspaces up to (but not including) the root workspace. For example, if you are viewing a third-level workspace, this would show the IDs and names of the current workspace and parent workspace in the format {987=MyCurrentWorkspace, 456=MyParentWorkspace}
