Creating identical or similar widgets#

This guide explains how to create an identical copy of a widget by cloning it, and how to create similar widgets using existing widgets as a starting point.

Introduction#

Adverity makes it easy to create exact copies of existing widgets, and to create multiple similar widgets. This can save you time and effort if, for example, you want to create multiple widgets that are only slightly different.

Prerequisites#

Before you complete the procedure in this guide, perform all of the following actions:

Creating identical copies of a widget#

To create an identical copy of a widget - also known as cloning a widget - follow these steps:

  1. Go to the Present page.

  2. Click the dashboard that contains the widget you want to clone.

  3. Hold the pointer over the widget, and then click image1 Widget actions.

  4. In the drop-down menu, select one of the following options:

    • Click image2 Clone to add an identical copy of this widget to the current dashboard

    • Click image3 Clone widget to another dashboard to add an identical copy of this widget to a different dashboard.

In the pop-up window, select the workspace, dashboard and dashboard page to which you want to add the widget, and then click Clone.

As a result, an exact copy of your chosen widget is added to the dashboard you selected.

Creating multiple similar widgets#

There are two methods to create similar widgets:

  • Clone an existing widget, then edit the cloned widget.

  • Open an existing widget, then edit it and save the changes as a new widget.

Editing a cloned widget#

To clone a widget, then edit the cloned widget, follow these steps:

  1. Follow the steps in Creating identical copies of a widget above to clone an existing widget.

  2. Open the dashboard containing the cloned widget.

  3. Hold the pointer over the widget, and then click image4 Widget settings.

  4. Click image5 Open in Explore.

  5. In Explore, make the required changes to the widget.

  6. In the top right corner of the page, click Save.

As a result, the changes are made to the cloned widget. The original widget that you cloned is not changed.

Editing an existing widget and saving the changes#

To edit an existing widget, then save the changes as a new widget, follow these steps:

  1. Go to the Explore page.

  2. At the top of the page, select the View tab that contains the widget you want to edit.

  3. Make the required changes to the widget.

  4. In the top right corner of the page, click Save as image6. This option only appears after you have made changes to the widget.

  5. In the drop-down menu, select one of the following options:

    • New widget on the same dashboard

Select this option to save a copy of the widget and add it to the same dashboard as the original widget. This option will create a new View tab in Explore with CLONED at the start of its name.

    • New widget on another dashboard

Select this option to save a copy of the widget and add it to a new dashboard or another existing dashboard.

In the Save as a new widget pop-up window, select the dashboard and dashboard page to which you want to add the widget, and then click Add.

    • New view in Explore

Select this option to open the current widget configuration in a new View tab in Explore. The new view is considered a new widget that has not been added to a dashboard.

  6. Go back to the View tab that contains the original widget that you copied.

  7. In the top right corner of the page, click Discard changes.

As a result, the original widget is not changed. Depending on the option you selected, a new widget with the changes you made has been added to the same dashboard, a new draft dashboard, a different existing dashboard, or a new view in Explore.
