Using two-factor authentication#

This guide explains how to set up and use two-factor authentication in Adverity.

Introduction#

Two-factor authentication helps you to keep your Adverity account secure. You can set up two-factor authentication in Adverity using an authenticator application of your choice.

Note

You can make multi-factor authentication compulsory for all users in your organization. To do so, please contact the Adverity Support team.

Prerequisites#

Before following the steps in this guide, you need to install an authenticator application on your smartphone or computer. The list below provides some example authenticator applications.

On an Android device

Google Authenticator

On an Apple device

Apple’s two-factor authentication function

On a desktop computer

Authenticator or GAuth Authenticator

Using two-factor authentication in Adverity#

Setting up two-factor authentication#

To set up two-factor authentication for your Adverity account, follow these steps:

  1. In the top right corner, click image1 Account.

  2. Click Account details.

  3. In the secondary menu, click Two-factor authentication.

  4. Click Authenticator.

  5. Scan the QR code using your chosen authenticator application.

  6. Enter the six-digit code provided by your authenticator application.

  7. Click Verify.

As a result, you will be logged into Adverity. Now that two-factor authentication is active for your account, whenever you log in to Adverity, follow these steps:

  1. Log in to Adverity with your username and password.

  2. Generate a six-digit code in your chosen authenticator application.

  3. Enter this six-digit code in Adverity.

  4. Click Validate.

Generating backup tokens#

If your chosen authenticator application is unavailable, you can log in to Adverity using a backup token. You can only use each backup token once. To generate backup tokens, follow these steps:

  1. In the top right corner, click image2 Account.

  2. Click Account details.

  3. In the secondary menu, click Two-factor authentication.

  4. Click Backup Tokens.

  5. Click Generate new token set.

  6. Copy the displayed backup tokens into a file.

  7. Store the file containing your backup tokens securely.

    Warning

    Do not store the backup tokens on the same device as your authenticator application. Storing these separately means that you can log in to Adverity if your device is unavailable.

Deactivating two-factor authentication#

To deactivate two-factor authentication for your Adverity account, follow these steps:

  1. In the top right corner, click image3 Account.

  2. Click Account details.

  3. In the secondary menu, click Two-factor authentication.

  4. Click Authenticator.

  5. Enter your Adverity password.

  6. Click Unlink.

As a result, two-factor authentication has been deactivated for your Adverity account. You no longer need to use your authenticator application to log in to Adverity.

Changing your device or authenticator application#

To change the device or authenticator application that you use to log in to Adverity, these steps:

  1. Follow the steps in Deactivating two-factor authentication above to deactivate your current two-factor authentication.

  2. Follow the steps in Setting up two-factor authentication to set up two-factor authentication with your new device or authenticator application.

  3. Follow the steps in Generating backup tokens to generate new backup tokens to use with your new device or authenticator application.

    Note

    You will need to delete the file containing the old backup tokens, because they will no longer work.

As a result, you have deactivated your previous two-factor authentication and set up new two-factor authentication with your new device or authenticator application.
