Configuring Data Conversations access in Dashboards

Configuring Data Conversations access in Dashboards#

This guide explains how to control user access to Data Conversations in Dashboards. For an overview of the feature from a user perspective, see Using Data Conversations in Dashboards.

Data Conversations in Dashboards is opt-in only. Access is controlled through a workspace-level setting and one of two additional mechanisms, depending on how users access the dashboard.

Prerequisites#

You need Workspace Admin (WA) permissions in Explore & Present to configure the settings described in this guide. For more information, see Roles and permissions in Explore & Present.

Authorization mechanisms#

Access is controlled through the following mechanisms:

Workspace-level opt-in

Enables Data Conversations in Dashboards for the workspace. This must be configured before any other mechanism. Configured in the Manage section of the workspace administration settings.

The remaining mechanisms are independent and serve different use cases:

Role-level access

Controls which workspace users can access Data Conversations in Dashboards. Use this for users who have a workspace role in Explore & Present. Assigned per role in the Users & roles section of the workspace administration settings. For more information on managing roles, see Roles and permissions in Explore & Present.

Per-share toggle

Controls whether recipients of a specific shared dashboard can access Data Conversations from it. Use this for external viewers accessing a dashboard via a share link. Enabled or disabled individually for each dashboard share in the dashboard sharing settings. For more information on sharing dashboards, see Sharing dashboards and widgets.
