Working with widgets on a dashboard#

This guide explains the actions available when you hover over a widget on a dashboard. To apply styling changes to all widgets at once, see Using dashboard themes.

When you hover over a widget, the following actions appear:

  • Edit data and visualization — edit the widget’s data configuration and visualization settings.

  • Widget styling — customize the visual appearance of this widget, overriding the theme defaults.

  • Change date range — update the date range for this widget.

  • Edit dimension filters — add or update dimension filters applied to this widget.

  • Move — drag the widget to a new position on the dashboard page.

  • image1 Widget actions — open the actions menu for additional options.

Editing widget data and visualization#

To edit a widget’s data configuration and visualization settings, follow these steps:

  1. Go to the Present page.

  2. Click the dashboard containing the widget.

  3. Hover over the widget and click Edit data and visualization.

  4. Make your changes.

  5. To open the widget in Explore for more advanced editing, click Open in Explore in the bottom left corner of the editor.

  6. Click Save to apply your changes.

Configuring widget styling#

The Widget Styling panel lets you control the visual appearance of any widget, including its title, date range, icon, background, and more. Changes are applied immediately so you can preview them on the dashboard. Settings changed from the theme default are visually indicated.

To open the Widget Styling panel, hover over the widget and click Widget styling.

Configure the settings in each section:

Widget

Control what the widget displays and its general appearance:

  • Content: choose which elements to show: title, date range, description, and compare date ranges (if comparison periods are configured in Explore).

  • Icon: add an icon to the widget header, configuring icon color and alignment.

  • Content padding: inner padding of the widget content area.

  • Widget background: background color for this widget, overriding the theme default.

  • Use background image: enables setting a background image with additional configuration options.

Title

Configure the widget title appearance:

  • Alignment: left, center, or right.

  • Font family: select a font, including custom Google Fonts.

  • Title color: text color of the title.

  • Font weight: for example, regular or bold.

  • Font size: size of the title text.

  • Underline: add a decorative underline with control over color, thickness, offset, and length.

  • Render as tag: renders the title as a styled tag with configurable background, border, and padding.

Subtitle

Configure the secondary header area:

  • Date range color: color of the date range label.

  • Font family: font for the date range and description text.

  • Date range font size: size of the date range text.

  • Date range alignment: left, center, or right, independently of the title alignment.

  • Description color: color of the widget description text.

  • Render as tag: renders the date range as a styled tag with configurable background, border, and padding.

Visualization (visualization widgets only)

Configure the chart type and visualization settings, including general settings, data source settings, and data series settings. For details, see Creating visualization widgets.

Data table (data table widgets only)

Configure the data table appearance:

Colors:

  • Brand: main brand color for data tables.

  • Header: background color of the table header.

  • Header text: text color of the table header.

  • Font color and font size: color and size of table body text.

Header options:

  • Hide header: hides the table header row.

  • Hide dimension name: hides dimension column headers.

  • Bold header: renders header text in bold.

  • Italic header: renders header text in italic.

Styling options:

  • Row stripes: alternating row background colors.

  • Vertical borders: borders between columns.

  • Horizontal borders: borders between rows.

Additional options:

  • Row numbers: displays a sequential row number in the first column.

  • Font size: select a font size for the table.

  • Highlights: select columns and/or rows to highlight.

  • Hide columns: select columns to hide from the display.

Quickfilter (quickfilter widgets only)
  • Body color: background color of the quickfilter body.

Switcher (switcher widgets only)
  • Body color: background color of the switcher body.

Page navigation (page navigation widgets only)
  • Background current page: button background for the active page.

  • Background other pages: button background for inactive pages.

  • Text color current page: label color for the active page button.

  • Text color other pages: label color for inactive page buttons.

  • Round corners: corner radius for navigation buttons.

To reset an individual setting back to the theme value, click the reset icon next to that setting. To undo all changes and restore the theme defaults, click Reset all at the top of the panel.

Changing the date range for a widget#

To change the date range for a single widget, follow these steps:

  1. Go to the Present page.

  2. Click the dashboard containing the widget.

  3. Hover over the widget and click Change date range.

  4. Select the new date range.

  5. Click Apply.

As a result, the widget displays data for the selected date range.

Editing dimension filters for a widget#

To add or update dimension filters applied to a single widget, follow these steps:

  1. Go to the Present page.

  2. Click the dashboard containing the widget.

  3. Hover over the widget and click Edit dimension filters.

  4. Configure the dimension filter conditions.

  5. Click Apply.

As a result, the widget displays data filtered by the selected dimension values.

Moving a widget#

To move a widget to a different position on the dashboard page, hover over the widget and drag it to the desired position.

To move a widget to a different dashboard page, use the Move to page option in the widget actions menu. For details, see Moving widgets between dashboard pages.

Widget actions menu#

Click image1 Widget actions (the three-dot icon in the top right corner of the widget) to access the following options:

Move to top / Move to bottom

Moves the widget to the top or bottom of the dashboard page.

Refresh

Triggers an on-demand data reload for this widget. Works on both frozen and unfrozen dashboards.

Clone / Clone to another dashboard

Creates a copy of this widget on the same dashboard or on a different one. For details, see Creating identical copies of a widget.

Export

Exports the data from this table widget. For more information, see Exporting dashboards.

Move to page

Moves this widget to a different dashboard page. For more information, see Using dashboard pages.

Comment

Add a comment to this widget. For more information, see Adding comments to dashboards and widgets.

Share

Share this widget with other users. For more information, see Sharing dashboards and widgets.

Full screen

Displays this widget in full screen mode. Press Escape to exit.

Delete

Removes this widget from the dashboard page.

Save to Custom Library

Saves this widget to the Custom Library so it can be reused across dashboards as a template. For more information, see Using the Custom Library of widgets.
