Reverting changes in Explore#
This guide explains how to review and undo recent edits to a widget using the Recent changes drawer in Explore.
Introduction#
As you build a widget in Explore, every change you make — adding a metric, editing a filter, changing the date range or visualization, and so on — is tracked in order. The Recent changes drawer lets you review these edits and roll back to an earlier state without rebuilding the widget from scratch.
Note
Recent changes tracks the edits you make during your current Explore editing session. The history is not retained after you leave Explore. When you edit a widget in the pop-up Explore editor, the history is cleared as soon as you close the editor.
Opening the Recent changes drawer#
To open the Recent changes drawer, in Explore, next to Add to dashboard, click Recent changes.
As a result, a drawer opens on the right, listing your edits with the most recent at the top.
Reading the change history#
The drawer shows your edits as a timeline, grouped by day. Click a day heading to collapse or expand that day’s changes.
Each entry shows a label describing the change — for example, Add metric, Change date range, or Remove filter — followed by the affected dimension, metric, or value. A colored dot marks the type of change:
Green — an item was added.
Red — an item was removed.
Blue — an existing setting was changed.
A You are here marker shows your current position in the history. Changes below the marker are applied to the widget; changes above it have been rolled back and can be reapplied.
Note
Explore keeps up to the 50 most recent changes per view. Older changes are dropped as new ones are made.
Reverting and reapplying changes#
Reverting rewinds the widget to a moment in its history rather than undoing a single change in isolation.
To roll back to an earlier state, follow these steps:
Open the Recent changes drawer.
Hover over the change you want to return to.
Click Revert.
As a result, that change and every change made after it are rolled back, and the You are here marker moves to that point.
To reapply changes you have rolled back, hover over an entry above the You are here marker and click Redo. This reapplies that change and every earlier change that was rolled back.
