Ask your dashboard#

This guide explains how to use Ask your dashboard to ask plain-language questions about the data shown on a dashboard without leaving it.

This feature is in beta stage.

Prerequisites#

Ask your dashboard requires Snowflake Managed by Adverity (SMBA) as your data warehouse. It is not available to users who have opted out of AI features.

The feature is opt-in and disabled by default. An administrator must enable it before it is available to any user. For setup instructions, see Configuring Ask your dashboard access.

Overview#

When you access Ask your dashboard from a dashboard, the system automatically scopes the conversation to the data displayed on that dashboard. Users can ask questions the dashboard does not directly answer — but cannot access any data beyond what the dashboard defines.

This boundary is enforced through column-level and row-level security, ensuring that dashboard viewers only interact with the data they are already permitted to see.

Accessing Ask your dashboard from a dashboard#

Click the AI icon on your dashboard to open the Ask your dashboard side modal. Ask questions about the data currently displayed without navigating away from the dashboard.

You can also open the modal in the full-screen mode, the specific dashboard filter is applied automatically.

Data security and boundaries#

Ask your dashboard is designed with strict data governance:

  • Users can only query data that is displayed on the dashboard. They cannot access any additional columns, tables, or rows beyond what the dashboard defines.

  • The system automatically creates a user in the Adverity Data platform with the necessary security and governance settings scoped to that dashboard.

  • Column-level and row-level security are inherited from the dashboard configuration.
