Setting up data quality summary emails#

This guide explains how to set up and manage data quality summary emails to receive periodic overviews of your Data Quality issues instead of, or in addition to, an immediate email for every issue.

Introduction#

What is a data quality summary email?

A data quality summary email is a notification that consolidates all unacknowledged Data Quality issues over a selected period. It reduces notification fatigue by consolidating updates into a single message.

How does a data quality summary email work?

Adverity sends a summary of unacknowledged Data Quality issues at the cadence you choose:

  • Once a day: Includes issues from the previous day (00:00 to 23:59 UTC).

  • Once a week (Monday): Includes issues from the previous week (Monday 00:00 to Sunday 23:59 UTC).

Each summary shows total errors and warnings, lists datastreams with issues grouped by data source and workspace, and links to detailed issue information in Adverity.

You can receive only the summary email, only an immediate email for each issue, or both.

Setting up a data quality summary email#

Prerequisites#

Before you complete the procedure in this guide, perform the following actions, if required:

Slack notifications
  • Set up a Slack workflow that starts with a Webhook event.

  • When setting the workflow, enter the notification message that you want to receive manually.

For more information, see the Slack documentation.

Microsoft Teams notifications
  • Set up a Microsoft Teams workflow to receive notifications through a webhook. For detailed instructions, see Microsoft Teams notifications in the Managing user notifications guide.

Procedure#

To set up a data quality summary email, follow these steps:

  1. Go to the Administration page.

  2. In the secondary menu, in the Notifications section, choose the type of notification you want to set up: Email, Slack, or Microsoft Teams.

  3. In the top right corner, click + Create subscription.

  4. In the User field, select the user who should receive the notifications.

  5. Enter the required information for the user. The information you need to provide here depends on the notification type:

    • For email notifications, in the Email field, enter the user’s email address.

    • For Slack or Microsoft Teams notifications, in the Webhook URL field, enter the webhook URL. To test the webhook URL, click Open next to this field.

  6. (Optional) For Slack notifications, in the Channel field, select the Slack channel where you want to receive the notifications. If you leave this field empty, Adverity sends the notifications to the default Slack channel.

  7. In the Topics field, select Data Quality issues.

  8. Select the Enabled checkbox to turn the notification on.

  9. In Send a summary email of new errors and warnings, select how often you want to receive the summary:

    • Once a day - Receive a summary once per day.

    • Once a week (Monday) - Receive a summary once per week, on Monday.

    • Don’t get notified - Do not receive a summary email.

  10. If you selected Once a day or Once a week (Monday), in Time (UTC), select the time of day when you want to receive the summary.

  11. (Optional) Select Send an email immediately when detecting an issue if you also want an immediate email each time a Data Quality issue is detected.

  12. (Optional) Select the Exclude warnings for Data Quality or datastream and transformation issues checkbox to receive only error notifications. You will not receive notifications about warnings.

  13. In the Workspaces field, select the workspaces for which you want to receive notifications. If you leave this field empty, you will receive notifications for all workspaces that you have access to.

  14. In the Datastreams field, select the datastreams for which you want to receive notifications. You can only select datastreams that belong to the workspaces you select in the Workspaces field. If you leave this field empty, you will receive notifications for all datastreams in these workspaces.

  15. Click Save.

As a result, a data quality notification subscription has been created. You will receive summaries of Data Quality issues at the frequency you selected.

What the summary email includes#

Each data quality summary email includes the following information:

Time range
  • Daily summaries: the previous day (00:00 to 23:59 UTC)

  • Weekly summaries: the previous week (Monday 00:00 to Sunday 23:59 UTC)

Summary statistics
  • Total errors detected

  • Total warnings detected

Datastreams with issues

The summary lists datastreams that have at least one unacknowledged issue in the selected time period. The datastreams are:

  • Sorted by number of errors (highest first), then number of warnings (highest first)

  • Limited to the most critical datastreams (typically 50-100) to keep the message size manageable

  • Grouped by data source and workspace for easier navigation

Issue details

For each datastream, the summary shows:

  • Monitor types that detected the issue (for example, Duplication, Volume, Timeliness, Column Consistency, or custom monitor names)

  • Count of issues for each monitor type

  • Links to view detailed issue information in Adverity
