Amazon Advertising Unified: Setup guide#

This guide explains how to collect data from Amazon Advertising Unified.

Introduction#

Amazon Advertising Unified combines reporting from across Amazon Ads and Amazon DSP sources into a single datastream. Compared to the separate Amazon Advertising and Amazon DSP connectors, it lets you mix and match dimensions and metrics from multiple report types in one request, offers longer data availability, and exposes a wider range of fields.

Important

Amazon Advertising Unified is in early-access beta. Rate limits imposed by Amazon may cause syncs to take longer than usual.

Limitations#

Collecting data from Amazon Advertising Unified comes with the following limitations:

  • You can select either manager accounts or advertiser accounts for a datastream, not both.

  • You can select up to 5 advertiser accounts per datastream.

  • Data availability and the maximum date range per fetch depend on the time dimension you select. If the date range you select exceeds the maximum for a single report, Adverity automatically splits the fetch into multiple requests. For more information, see Date range and lookback window limits.

Prerequisites#

Before you start collecting data from Amazon Advertising Unified, perform all of the following actions:

  • Ensure you have an Amazon Advertising authorization already set up, or the necessary permissions to create one. For more information, see Amazon Advertising: Setup guide.

Creating a datastream to collect data from Amazon Advertising Unified#

The basics of creating a datastream to collect data from any data source are explained in our guide to Collecting data in Adverity. This guide contains information about the specific steps to create a datastream to fetch data from Amazon Advertising Unified.

Authorization: Allow Adverity to access Amazon Advertising Unified#

Amazon Advertising Unified uses the same authorization flow as Amazon Advertising. If you already have an Amazon Advertising authorization, you can reuse it to create a datastream for Amazon Advertising Unified. Otherwise, set up a new authorization by following the steps in the Authorization section of Amazon Advertising: Setup guide.

Configuration: Choose the data you want to collect from Amazon Advertising Unified#

To choose what data to collect and customize the Amazon Advertising Unified datastream configuration, follow these steps:

  1. (Optional) Rename your datastream.

  2. In Account type, select whether to collect data for Advertiser or Manager accounts. The default is Advertiser.

  3. If you selected Manager in Account type, in Manager accounts, select the manager accounts for which to collect data. You can choose from All, Include, or Exclude specific accounts.

  4. If you selected Advertiser in Account type, in Advertiser accounts, select the advertiser accounts for which to collect data. You can choose from All, Include, or Exclude specific accounts. You can select up to 5 advertiser accounts.

  5. In Dimensions, select the dimensions to include in your data extract. The default is Advertiser account name.

    Note

Some dimensions require another dimension to also be present, for example selecting a dimension’s display name requires its ID. If you select a dimension that has this requirement, Adverity adds the required dimension automatically and displays an informational message the first time this happens for your current selection. The message is not repeated unless you change your selected fields again.

Available dimensions and metrics narrow automatically as you select more fields, so only combinations supported by Amazon remain selectable. For more information, see Dimension and metric compatibility.

  6. In Metrics, select the metrics to include in your data extract. The default is Impressions.

    Note

Selecting Sales or Converted sales automatically adds the required currency dimension to your selection.

  7. If you selected a converted metric, such as Converted sales, in Metrics, in Currency of view, select the currency in which converted metrics are reported. The default is None.

As a result, your Amazon Advertising Unified datastream is created.

Advanced Amazon Advertising Unified tips#

Dimension and metric compatibility#

Not all dimensions and metrics can be combined in the same report. As you select dimensions and metrics in the datastream configuration, Adverity filters the remaining options to only show those compatible with everything already selected. Deselecting a field widens the available options again.

As a final check, Adverity validates the full combination when you save the datastream. If any fields are still incompatible, the error message returned by Amazon identifies which fields are affected so you can adjust your selection.

Date range and lookback window limits#

Each time dimension you can select has its own data retention period (how far back data is available) and its own maximum date range per report request. When you select more than one time dimension, Adverity applies the most restrictive retention period and the most restrictive maximum date range across your selection.

If you select a fetch date range that is within the data retention period but longer than the maximum date range per request, Adverity automatically splits the fetch into multiple requests to cover the full range.
