TikTok Ads: Troubleshooting#

Some advertisers are missing from my data extract but the fetch succeeded#

When Adverity cannot retrieve data for one advertiser, it records a warning, skips that advertiser, and continues fetching the remaining ones. The datastream completes successfully, so the missing data is only visible in the datastream warnings, not in the status of the fetch.

The warnings take one of the following forms, and each names the advertiser concerned:

  • Error fetching for advertiser (<id>) "<error>". Some data will not be included in the extract.

  • Error fetching for <name> (<id>) "<error>". Some data will not be included in the extract.

  • Error fetching for <name> (<id>), TikTok API didn't return a valid response. It will not be included in the extract.

Adverity retries before skipping an advertiser, so a skipped advertiser indicates a persistent problem rather than a temporary one. The most common causes are insufficient permissions for that advertiser and sustained rate limiting by TikTok.

To resolve this issue, check the datastream warnings of the fetch to identify the affected advertisers, then confirm that the authorization has access to each one.

Tip

Check the datastream warnings after every fetch, not only when a datastream fails. A fetch that omits advertisers still reports success.

I see a rate limit error when fetching data from TikTok Ads#

TikTok limits how frequently its API accepts requests. Adverity detects these responses and retries them automatically with an increasing delay, so no action is needed for occasional rate limiting.

If rate limiting continues for long enough that the retries are exhausted, Adverity skips the affected advertiser and records an datastream warning, as described above.

I see an error about the query being too large#

The 40067 error appears when a single request covers too much data at once. The number of days requested, the number of advertisers, and the number of selected dimensions all contribute to the size of a request, so accounts with many ad groups or ads reach this limit over shorter date ranges than smaller accounts.

To resolve this issue, fetch a shorter date range, or reduce the number of dimensions in the datastream.

No advertisers are available after I authorize TikTok Ads#

Adverity retrieves advertisers through the Business Centers that the authorizing user can access. An advertiser appears only if it is registered as an asset of a Business Center that user can see.

An advertiser account that was granted directly to the user, without being added to a Business Center, is not returned, regardless of the permissions granted on the advertiser itself.

To resolve this issue, ask a TikTok administrator to add the advertiser as an asset of a Business Center the authorizing user can access, then synchronize the metadata for the authorization. For more information, see Synchronizing metadata.

Advertisers disappeared from a datastream that previously worked#

Adverity removes advertisers that TikTok no longer returns during a metadata synchronization. Losing access to a Business Center therefore removes every advertiser reached through it, from every datastream that uses the same authorization.

To resolve this issue, confirm that the authorizing user still has access to the Business Center, then synchronize the metadata for the authorization.

I am asked to re-authorize TikTok Ads repeatedly#

TikTok issues one access token per user for each application. Authorizing a new TikTok account with the same user can therefore invalidate an authorization that was working before.

Adverity synchronizes advertiser metadata daily, but this does not renew credentials. When a token is revoked or the permissions granted in TikTok change, re-authorizing is the only way to restore access.

To resolve this issue, re-authorize the authorization, and avoid using the same TikTok user to authorize several Adverity authorizations.
